DUNS ERROR 640, 643, 645, 649

DUNS ERROR 640

640 - A NetBIOS error has occurred.

WindowsNT - This error can occur if the DUNS settings for the connection you are attempting are not correct, or if the ISP's PPP server is not functioning properly. See MS KB Article Q161986

WindowsNT - Microsoft says this error can occur if the line is noisy. See MS KB Article Q162293

641 - The server cannot allocate NetBIOS resources needed to support the client.


DUNS ERROR 643

643 - A network adapter at the server failed.

Check the Connectoid and make sure the correct number is being dialed and that it is configured correctly.

If you are using a modem in your machine to connect to the Internet and get this error, it may be an indication that Windows networking and/or the connectoid is not set up properly.

If you are on a network and the Internet connection is from another machine on the network, troubleshoot the machine with the modem, the network, and the client machine.

644 - You will not receive network message popups.

DUNS ERROR 645

645 - Internal authentication error.

Windows 95/98 - This error can occur if the Require encrypted password option is enabled on the Server Types tab in the connection's properties, or an incorrect user name or password have been entered. See MS KB Article Q199780

Window Me - This error can occur if the Require encrypted password option is enabled in the Security tab in the connection's properties, or an incorrect user name or password have been entered.

MSN 2.5 - If you are using MSN 2.5, this error can occur if dial-up adaptor or components are missing. See MS KB Article Q173644 (Some users report this report/fix applies even though they have never used MSN.)

Windows 95/98 - This error can occur if the desktop PC is connected to a handheld PC is certain circumstances. See MS KB Article Q184227

Windows 95/98 - This error can occur if you are attempting to make a VPN (virtual private networking) connection, and VPN has not been installed correctly. See MS KB Article Q188141

All versions of Windows - This error can occur if you are attempting to connect to a Windows 2000 domain that has had a RRAS (Routing and Remote Access Services) server log on without administrative privileges. See MS KB Article 227747

This error might occur if you have a modem selected in the DUNS connectoid that is no longer installed in the computer: make sure correct modem is selected in the connectoid.

646 - The account is not permitted to log on at this time of day.

647 - The account is disabled.

648 - The password has expired.



DUNS ERROR 649

649 - The account does not have Remote Access permission.

All versions of Windows calling a Windows NT/SP4 RAS - This error can occur if the user name is the same as the domain name. See MS KB Q225127

All versions of Windows calling Windows NT/SP4 or higher or BackOffice 4.5 server - This error can occur if the username is 'system'. See MS KB Q234000

Windows for Workgroups - This error can occur if dialing in to a Windows NT Remote Access Server and your password has expired. See MS KB Q172613
